FAST FACTS:

  • The founders of the brand met in 1981 when Hubert Germain-Robin was hitchhiking along Highway 101 north of San Francisco and Ansley Coale decided to give him a lift.
  • While Germain-Robin’s brandies have become a favorite of bartenders and critics, the spirits can’t technically be called cognac since they’re made in California.
