WHY:

Escape to the clandestine Mr. Smith’s for a well-made seasonal cocktail.

WHAT TO ORDER:

  • Basil Gimlet $10 (gin, lime juice, agave nectar, chipotle, basil)
  • Lotus lemonade $10 (vodka, ginger root, lemon juice)
  • Balsamic Berry $10 (gin, fresh strawberries, lime juice, balsamic vinegar, ginger beer)

THE SCENE:

Discreetly tucked away in the shadow of the new Federal Building is an oasis of calm and mixology. Mr. Smith’s, which takes an old-school approach to bartending and décor, offers a list of hand-crafted cocktails and some daily specials made with seasonal ingredients. Try the refreshing Basil Gimlet (gin, lime juice, agave nectar, chipotle, basil) or the rich Balsamic Berry (gin, fresh strawberries, lime juice, balsamic vinegar, ginger beer). On the ground floor the main attraction is the bar staffed by bartenders decked out in, of course, retro attire. The top floor is a VIP lounge with bottle service; the basement houses a DJ booth and dance floor. It’s the perfect recipe for a good night out.
