WHY:

To take advantage of Elixir’s winter menu while Meyer lemons, kumquats and clementines are still in season. Or to have one of the bar’s expertly made classics.

WHAT TO ORDER:

  • Honey Kumquat Caipirinha $10 (Leblon Cachaça, Velvet Falernum, clover honey syrup and kumquats)
  • My Darling Clementine $10 (Plymouth Gin, Harvey’s Orange Sherry, clementine syrup, basil, and Regan’s Orange Bitters)
  • Sazerac $10 (Sazerac 6-Year-Old Rye Whiskey from Elixir’s private cask, Peychaud’s Bitters, sugar cube and a Herbsaint Liqueur rinse)

THE SCENE:

Elixir is many things to many people. There are beer drinkers who come for the 15 brews on tap, connoisseurs who only have eyes for its 120 different whiskies and cocktail geeks who prize the tasty seasonal drinks. But no matter your pleasure, the historic saloon (it’s been open since 1858) has a relaxed atmosphere and the friendly crowd will make you feel at home. From darts night and a weekly trivia quiz to make-your-own Bloody Marys, Elixir offers a different fun event daily. Behind the bar you’ll find the talented H. Joseph Ehrmann, who was recently named bartender of the year by Nightclub and Bar magazine.
