THE SCENE: From the exposed brick walls and apothecary lamps to the comfy leather chairs, Jackson Square’s Taverna Aventine combines old world charm with a modern sensibility. The bar’s menu of handcrafted cocktails is no exception, featuring a selection of classic drinks that have been updated with a twist, including the Maple Manhattan. If you prefer your spirits straight, the establishment offers a rotating list of about 20 Scotches, bourbons and other whiskies. (Frequent guests can buy whiskey bottles at a discount and store them in a rented locker in Aventine’s swanky downstairs lounge.) There’s also a list of fine Italian wines and a menu of “rustic Roman inspired” snacks available until 8 PM each night. Come on Thursdays for “Aventine Live,” where a band plays from 7:30 PM to 11 PM.
