Whisky Skin Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  • Boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon Demerara sugar
  • Lemon peel
  • 2 oz Scotch Whisky (Macallan or Ardbeg)
Glass: Mug or cup

PREPARATION:

Rinse a mug or cup with boiling water. Add 1 teaspoon Demerara sugar and a swatch of thin-cut lemon peel. Add 1 oz boiling water and stir to dissolve the sugar. Add 2 oz brawny single malt Scotch (Macallan or, if insane or very cold, Ardbeg). Finish by adding 1 oz more of boiling water to bring the heat back up.

This recipe is amazing with Glenfarclas 105.

I disagree, Steven. Demerara sugar gives it another dimension and it dissolves in the hot water in no time. I make my Hot Toddy with honey, slices of lemon pierced with whole cloves. I consider single malt Speyside such as Macallan far more superior to any Johnny Walker which is blended whisky. Ardbeg is an Islay whisky and seems too powerful to me, but that’s just a preference. You can make a lovely hot whisky drink with any quality whisky. My favourite whisky to use for a hot drink would be Japanese Nikka from the Barrel or Macallan.

Isn’t this just a hot toddy? Also, suggestion, use simple syrup in the boiling water. Also, use good scotch. Like a Johnny Walker Gold. The scotches character pops when water is added, so if you use shitty scotch, you will taste shitty scotch times 10..
